Cleaning your carpet regularly will only bring the value up when you decide to sell your vehicle. Since your vehicle is a huge investment, taking care of it is extremely important. Vacuum your carpets first. Then decide on a carpet cleaner. There are many to choose from, so pick wisely. I personally recommend Folex or Automagic HD carpet cleaner.  When vacuuming, use something powerful to get up as much dirt as possible. You want something that will suck things up easy, like a shop vac. They work great! Spray or apply spot cleaner to the spots and let it sit for several minutes. Agitate the are with a scrub brush, this will break up the particles.

The next step to cleaning your carpet is using a shampooer or extractor with your favorite carpet cleaner. Soak up as much of the liquid as possible and then let the carpet dry. Then vacuum the carpet one last time before replacing the carpet mats. Also, remember to clean your carpet mats as well.
